AM: Urvashi, please tell our readers about your background…
I was born in the northern part of India in a very highly academically-inclined family where education was emphasized. My grandfather was specialized in mathematics and my favorite subjects were physics, chemistry, mathematics with computer science. Growing up, I was really involved with studies and extra-curricular activities. I was the head girl of my school; I got used to performing and I was the captain of the basketball team. My Bollywood career started after winning two times Miss India Universe (2012 and 2015) and that's how my journey started. And now I'm an actress.
AM: Being an international pageant winner what would you say are some of the challenges of the field?
The challenges revolve around physical and emotional preparation because the competition is quite demanding. We need to always be in our top mental and physical shape, so we have to balance rigorous workouts with other responsibilities as well as handling the media and language barriers. Being an international pageant winner is a global thing, you have to interact with people coming from numerous countries in different languages, so you need to be able to communicate with others effectively and adapt to cultures as well. Time management is very important. You always have a busy schedule, you have to balance your time between rehearsals and shoots, you have to be comfortable with being interviewed and photographed. You also have to be aware of your culture and handling criticism because sometimes you may not agree with other people but you need to be able to handle criticism and rejection graciously.

AM: And what about your career as actress, how did you transition to that?
My
career as an actress was after the release of my first film Singh Saab
the Great, that was the moment when I really realized my love for the
cinema and true potential in dabbling different genres and characters. I
enjoy reading scripts and my lines in various ways, working with
wonderful directors that can portray me in a different light all
together and just living several lives in one lifetime.
AM: What are some pros and cons of being and actress in Bollywood?
I'm
the kind of person that loves to see that the glass is always half full
rather than half empty. I would say that the pros are that you have
that kind of awareness, you have that aura in which if you voice an
opinion, it will be heard. Recognition, awards and the scope of
displaying your talent are also a pro. The cons are different for every
person but for me I would say it is to be prepared for rejection and
failure.
AM: What films do you enjoy playing in the most?
Most
of my characters in my films have been really special and very close to
me starting with playing the role of a girl next door, a hopeless
romantic character and a female revenge drama. I love playing intense
roles.

AM: What would you say is the main message that you transmit to your followers via your social media platforms?
The
main message that I try to transmit to my fans would be to be happy, to
constantly strive to be the best version of yourself, and to focus on
your fitness, discipline and motivation.
AM: How would you explain your rising fame in the Middle East?
There
are surprisingly a lot of Middle Eastern people who absolutely love
Bollywood so I think the connection kind of started then. In the
beginning, I worked with Arab superstar Mohamed Ramadan, the Egyptian
actor/singer in his music video Versace Baby. I think that's when it
really started. We, the people of Bollywood, are just so glad that
Middle Easterners like our films.
AM: Describe your relationship with fashion
I
absolutely love fashion and I love all sorts of fashionable people. I
think how you present yourself to the world today is important. Fashion
is an instinct, and also style is a way to say who you are without
having to speak. So, I truly feel that it's the best way to express
yourself to the entire world.

I think it's doing my first ever female-centric film being a judge for Miss Universe. When India won the pageant, that was also a very proud moment for me.
AM: Finally, what are some of your upcoming projects?
My recent film Waltair Veerayya got released on Netflix and I have more in the works for them. I have another bilingual film, my single is coming out soon, and hopefully something in Paris with a really renowned artist.
