LVMH and Germanier Reimagine Luxury with Prélude

LVMH x Germanier
LVMH and celebrated upcycling designer Kevin Germanier have launched Prélude, a groundbreaking fashion collection representing a significant step forward in sustainable luxury. This innovative initiative marks the first-ever entirely upcycled collection from LVMH, showcasing the Group's unwavering commitment to circularity and responsible practices within the fashion industry. Born from an in-depth reflection on creative reuse, Prélude masterfully transforms mainly unsold products from LVMH's prestigious fashion houses, alongside fabric scraps sourced from the innovative platform Nona Source (an LVMH intrapreneurship program) and the award-winning startup weturn.

Prélude embodies two key ambitions for LVMH: creating a desirable and commercially successful collection while upholding the highest standards of excellence and refinement, and ensuring the complete anonymity of the original products' origins, resulting in truly unique and innovative pieces. Under Germanier's creative direction, the collection exemplifies the art of "creating," "deconstructing," and "recreating," pushing the boundaries of material usage and highlighting the development of new skills. Techniques such as strip-cutting to weave new textiles, unravelling to re-knit original pieces, and the artistry of crochet showcase an unprecedented level of creative ingenuity and resourcefulness.

The result is a back-to-basics aesthetic, emphasizing harmony and excellence through the use of single threads or fabric strips, reinventing the creative cycle and exploring new creative frontiers. Prélude's success fully embodies LVMH's dedication to more responsible and desirable fashion, serving as a powerful prelude to future creations that are even more ambitious and sustainable. This commitment extends to collaborations such as recycling elements leftover from the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games productions, further emphasizing LVMH's long-term vision for a more circular and environmentally conscious future within the luxury fashion sector.
