AM: Can you tell us about the start of your acting career?
Nisrin Erradi: I started acting in the theater from the age of 6. After getting my high school diploma, I joined the Higher Institute of Dramatic Art and did a 4-year training program. I then worked as a theater, TV and film actress. At a certain point, I decided to focus solely on cinema.
AM: How did you prepare yourself for the character of Touda?
Nisrin Erradi: It was a long preparation, about a year and a half between the preparation and the filming. I contacted several Chaouis (a Moroccan ethnic group) and even lived with one of them to immerse myself in their lifestyle. I went out with them to the bars where they sing to really get to know their way of life.

AM: What was it like working with the director Nabil Ayouch?
Nisrin
Erradi: I adore Nabil Ayouch, I think he is the best Moroccan director.
I was very happy to have the opportunity to work with him. It was
intense work but we had some wonderful moments together making the film.
AM: How did the character of Touda impact you?
Nisrin
Erradi: Touda is a very complex and intense character that was
difficult to embody. But playing her has left a mark on me. She has
given me a new power and strength as an actress. The responsibility of
portraying such an iconic character is also a huge thing for me as an
actress.
AM: The film Everybody Loves Touda has had a lot of
success, from Cannes to Marrakech and an Oscar consideration. What has
that experience been like?
Nisrin Erradi: It's been really
impressive, especially the screenings in Los Angeles. I didn't expect a
Moroccan film to have such a big impact internationally. I think it's an
important moment to highlight the stories of strong Arab women in
cinema.

AM: Why do you think stories of Arab women resonate so much in the West when they are featured in films?
Nisrin
Erradi: I think it's because we haven't really dared to talk about and
discuss Arab women in this way before - as complex, strong characters,
not just stereotypes. With Touda, we see an Arab woman who is powerful
and different from the usual depictions.
AM: How would you describe the unique flavor of Moroccan cinema compared to other Arab cinemas?
Nisrin
Erradi: Moroccan cinema is very rich and diverse, with many different
styles and influences, from the more traditional Moroccan to the more
international filmmakers like Nabil Ayouch. Moroccan cinema is really
making a name for itself globally.
AM: What advice would you give to young Moroccan actresses aspiring to reach the same level of success?
Nisrin
Erradi: My advice would be to have passion, dedication and a strong
sense of character. The most important thing is to put your heart into
the work, to really love what you do. If you do that, success will come.
